Sport? Art? or Brutality? The season’s here

The new bull-fighting season is underway at Guadalajara’s Nuevo Progreso Plaza de Toros.

This polemic sport takes place every Sunday at 4.30 p.m. until November 11, with prices ranging from 100 to 250 pesos. The next eight bullfights will be “novilladas,” which feature young matadors taking on three-year-old bulls that weigh at least 300 kilos. The following five weeks there will be “corridas,” in which more experienced matadors fight bulls that are at least four years old and weigh over 400 kilos. The bullring is located at Pirineos 1930, just off the Calzada Independencia in colonia Monumental.
