Zapopan Children’s Choir makes its debut

The 42 eager youngsters who comprise the newly formed Coro Infantil de Zapopan will interpret carols and villancicos at two concerts under the baton of director Benjamín Bautista this weekend at the Museo de Arte de Zapopan auditorium.

The children were selected from 70 applicants following a promotion campaign in local schools and via social media.

Bautista is currently the director of the choir at the Instituto Loyola in Ajijic. As a tenor in the Jalisco State Choir he has participated in several full operas, including “La Traviata,” “Madame Butterfly” and “La Boheme.”

Although the aim is have a choir of around 50 children, Bautista is keen to form a second string of singers who want to improve their voices and who can fill in when required.

Rehearsals take place Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the Instituto de Cultura de Zapopan, Calle Vicente Guerrero 233,  from 5-7 p.m.  Auditions take place following the choir rehearsal.
