Local ballet star announces Mexico City show

Guadalajara-born dancer Isaac Hernandez is bringing a star-studded team of talent to Mexico City next month in a bid to widen the appeal of ballet in this country.

Hernandez has taken the world of ballet by storm since he began competing internationally in 2002.

He came to prominence as a teenager, winning first places in competitions in France, the Czech Republic, the United States and Cuba.  He began began dancing as a small boy in his family’s Guadalajara patio under the watchful eyes of his father.

After four years with the San Francisco Ballet, Hernandez moved to Europe last year to join the Dutch National Ballet.

Hernandez has always expressed the hope of performing in his home country in front of large audiences.

His chance will come August 13 at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City, when he will join internationally acclaimed ballet stars from 11 companies for a gala contemporary ballet performance.

Dancers are expected from the Royal Ballet of London, New York Ballet, American Ballet Theater and the Opera de Paris, among others.

Also appearing will be Hernandez’s 19-year-old brother Esteban, who has just graduated with honors  from the Royal Ballet School in London. He has already won several international ballet awards, and looks ready to follow in his elder sibling’s footsteps.
