Famed folk dance troupe to wrap up season

The final two Sundays in September provide your last chance this year to see the world famous Ballet Folclorico of the Universidad de Guadalajara (UDG).

The troupe is formed of 30 male and female dancers, plus 25 musicians and singers.  Their show contains 25 folk dance numbers from all corners of Mexico, all authentically choreographed and costumed.  Their reputation crosses borders and few would dispute their claim to be the best folk troupe in the country.

Among the highlights of the first half of the program are the dances from the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca, including those seen during the Guelaguetza festival, held each June. The second half features dances from Veracruz and other Mexican states, culminating with a finale “Made in Jalisco,” with emotional interpretations of the popular tunes “La negra,” “La culebra” and “Jarabe Tapatío.”

Teatro Degollado, Sunday, September 22 and 29, 10 a.m.  80-250 pesos.
