Guadalajara performing arts highlights in November

Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco

Guadalajara-born mezzo-soprano and orchestra director Grace Echauri is the guest conductor for the OFJ’s second program of the season, featuring Dmitri Shostakovich’s Obertura Festival and Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite.

Phantom of the Opera

A local company, Victorian Goth Productions, presents the famous Lloyd-Webber musical, with 70 artists and musicians performing.

Live from the Met

Transmission of Anthony Davis’s groundbreaking and influential opera, X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X., which premiered in 1986 from the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Slovakian jazz

Kristin Lash and Jakob Grey are among the most outstanding young personalities of the Slovak music/jazz scene. Through passionate, soulful and emotive vocals, accompanied by vulnerable lyrics, bright harmonies, and massive pop hooks, they have made a name for themselves, making it impossible to ignore.

Former OFJ director José Guadalupe Flores leads the musicians in the world premiere of Manuel Cerda’s Suite sinfónica, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D major, and Vasily Kallinikov’ Symphony No. 1 in G minor. The guest violinist is Angélica Olivo.

Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco

A more modern program sees the OFJ interpret Central Park in the Dark and The Unanswered Question by Charles Ives, Concerto for Saxophone Quartet and Orchestra by Philip Glass (accompanied by the Sigma Project Quartet), and several pieces from Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten. José Luis Castillo conducts.

Bugs Bunny & friends

Bugs Bunny at the Symphony is a major U.S. spectacle celebrating 100 years of Warner Brothers magic—and it’s not just kids who will love it!  Maestro George Daugherty conducts the Orquesta Solistas de América in a program featuring Looney Tunes cartoons with Bugs, Road Runner, Pepe LePew, Daffy Duck, Elmer Fudd, and friends.
