Famed tenor Plácido Domingo will be the guest of honor at the Guadalajara premiere of the zarzuela “El Orgullo de Jalisco” by Spanish composer Federico Moreno Torroba. The performance takes place on Sunday, September 14, at 6 p.m. in the Degollado Theater in the city center.
The event holds profound personal significance for Domingo, as his mother, the renowned soprano Pepita Embil, performed in this same work 78 years ago at the Arbeu Theatre in Mexico City — coincidentally also on September 14.
World-renowned Canarian mezzo-soprano Nancy Fabiola Herrera and Mexican baritone Luis Ledesma will perform the lead roles.
For audiences unfamiliar with the genre, zarzuela is a distinctive Spanish form of musical theater that alternates between spoken dialogue, operatic singing, and popular song and dance.
Tickets are available at Boletomovil.com and at the theatre box office, with prices ranging from 50 to 1,000 pesos.
