Sunday, September 7, Guest speaker Scott Grace will give the talk, “Beyond Red and Blue – Staying Human in Divided Times,” at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meeting at St. Andrews Anglican Church, San Lucas 19, Riberas de Pilar.

It can be hard staying human these days in such a divisive world. Scott Grace, through music, poetry, and a little comedy, will bring us some Mark Twain homespun wisdom and share his experiments with being a depolarizer in a polarized world.

The service leader is June Eguchi.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Sunday, September 7, the sermon will be “What Faith Really Means,” from Hebrews 11.

What does it really mean to live by faith? Hebrews 11 paints a sweeping picture—from Abel to Abraham, from Moses to the prophets—of men and women who trusted God even when they never saw the fulfillment of His promises.
Their lives remind us that faith isn’t wishful thinking—it’s confidence in the character of the One who promises. As we look back at this great cloud of witnesses, we’re invited to step into the same story: persevering in faith today so that future generations might be inspired to do the same.

English language service is at 10 a.m. at Constitución 26, in Ajijic, 2nd floor. Enter through the back garage area and walk upstairs. There’s also a small lift at the front. Join us for coffee and refreshments after the service.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church

Jesus starts his sermon with an upside-down list called the beatitudes.  Not rules to keep but a portrait of life shaped by God’s Spirit. Jesus calls the poor in spirit “blessed,” for the Spirit opens our eyes to need and draws us into the kingdom. Mourners are blessed as grief is transformed into comfort and hope. The meek are blessed, not for weakness, but for learning the strength of surrender. Those who hunger for righteousness are blessed, for the Spirit plants holy desires and satisfies them in Christ. The merciful are blessed, for mercy flows from hearts touched by mercy. The Beatitudes reveal the Spirit making us kingdom citizens now.
