The BRAVO! and Bare Stage theaters present “Giving and Taking Direction: with Bernadette Jones” from May 7 to June 25.
This eight-week Zoom (at the time of this edition) workshop will deal with the relationship between director and actor. The participants will develop serviceable communication skills that will encourage artistic collaboration.
Throughout her professional career in theater and film, Jones has been described as an “actor’s director.” Why? Because she has developed a vocabulary to communicate her ideas effectively and to listen with respect to an actor’s contribution in rehearsals. Directors and actors must learn to cooperate creatively for a project to develop into a satisfying production for both.
In the first four weeks (Part 1: actor focused), Jones will be directing the actors in selected scenes. The directors will learn how cooperation works in the creative process and learn the vocabulary best to use when communicating with an actor. The directors will also be encouraged to ask questions or ask for more clarification on what they are watching.
