The whimsical visions of a late-blooming artist

Color is the first thing you notice about Luci Williams’ art, currently on show at the Casa del Sol Inn in Ajijic.

pg13aI am personally drawn to oranges and reds and there is an abundance of those warm hues throughout her work. But her paintings are also constructed with shocking bits of deep blues, limey greens and punches of yellow that border on sulphurous.

Although Williams was raised in an art-loving Guadalajara family, it was her artist sons who finally recognized her need to paint. They encouraged her to follow her long-held dream and embrace the lifestyle of an artist. They accompanied her to the art store to purchase her first oils and acrylics, setting her on a path that feels full-circle.

For the past 11 years, Williams has risen every day with the inspiration to paint freely from her imagination. She spends her mornings in her light-filled loft, drinking coffee and lovingly bringing to life abstract faces and whatever was placed upon her heart and soul for the day. When she is with her sons, they paint together and, she says, this brings her great joy.
