Diane Pearl & Karen Spencer team up to bring out your inner artist

When we were kids we were all budding artists — doodling on an Etch A Sketch, making masterpieces with crayons, drawing on the sidewalk with colored chalk.

pg20bThen we grew up and the demands of jobs and family and busy schedules took over our time. But now we have time. Time to recapture that childhood joy. Karen Spencer will show you how in special line drawing classes hosted by Diane Pearl.

You may already be familiar with Spencer’s colorful Mexican photography, along with images from her international travels, that she has displayed in many Lakeside venues over the last 14 years. What you may not know is that she is a classically trained artist and designer who has worked in many different media during her years in New York, New Orleans and Connecticut.

“During Covid it was nearly impossible to get out and about with my camera,” Spencer says.  “It was then, housebound, that I rediscovered my early love of pen and ink drawing.”

By adapting age-old methods, Spencer has developed a simple pen and ink tracing technique that will transform a favorite photograph into an entirely new original work of art.

She will be sharing and teaching this skill in a two-part class at Diane Pearl Gallery Wednesday, December 13 and Friday, December 15, both at 2 p.m.. A 500-peso fee covers both classes and all materials. Reservations are required: 376-766-5683 or 376-766-3229. And when you attend your class, be sure to ask to see Diane’s latest venture into a spectacular new version of her own pen and ink drawings!
