Maria Barakova impresses in Met’s revival of Verdi’s ‘Nabucco’ at LLT

“Nabucco” has returned to the Metropolitan Opera after a seven-year absence. The opera was set to return during the 2020-21 season but was canceled due to the pandemic.

pg14bNow Verdi’s early gem is finally back in the company’s legendary Elijah Moshinsky production that has become emblematic of the Met’s grandeur and its gorgeous tableaus.

Verdi’s third opera, a stirring drama about the fall of ancient Jerusalem at the hands of Nebuchadnezzar (Nabucco) and the Hebrews’ subsequent exile in Babylon, was a spectacular hit at its premiere at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala in 1842 and catapulted the 28-year-old composer to international fame.
