Two Chicago artists to show at San Antonio gallery

Galería MóCá will host an exhibition featuring works by painter Mirtes Zwierzynski and ceramicist Elena Aguirre Sznajder, with an opening reception on Saturday, January 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. The gallery is located on the main square in San Antonio Tlayacapan.

Zwierzynski, an art teacher, muralist, and painter, is a Brazilian native who has lived in Chicago since 1980. Her current work focuses on nature. Describing the pieces in this exhibition, she says: “My intent with these artworks is to create, exaggerate, and transform the size of medicinal flowers to give them a defiant presence. For me, they serve as metaphors for addressing poverty, refugees, and immigration—issues that are often overlooked but have a significant and unapproachable presence worldwide.”

Sznajder, a Uruguayan artist, lived in Chicago from 1983 before moving to Lakeside in 2016. Her artistic training began in Uruguay under the guidance of visual artist Nelson Ramos. She also studied ceramics at the Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago, where she explored various hand-modeling techniques over 14 years of courses and workshops.
