Film Aficionados founder’s movies on at Casa del Sol Inn

Marshall Krantz moved to Lakeside with his wife and two-year-old son in 1999 from Massachusetts, where he had been a high school teacher and college professor for 40 years.

He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) and started a group called the Film Aficionados, an informal weekly screening of fine films every Thursday. The program became popular and continued for more than 20 years, until the Covid lockdown.

“My interest in cinema deepened when I taught a course in Abnormal Psychology in Film & Literature,” Krantz says. “I was amazed at the enthusiastic discussions that followed each showing, which sparked my interest in films that inspired deep thinking.”

Krantz is now showing his films at Casa del Sol Inn with November Movie Nights, held every Thursday at 3 p.m. The cost is 125 pesos, with popcorn and drinks available.
