LLT emergency election may soon be called

Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) members returning after the summer have been surprised and disappointed to learn that President Pat Carroll and his wife Terri returned permanently to Canada in early July. A very popular president for ten years, Carroll was an invaluable, well-respected champion of LLT both as an actor and a pro-active board member. His departure will leave a great void at the theater and the wider Ajijic community.


Rondalla Chapala back in business

La Rondalla de Chapala is making a comeback after a 15-year hiatus. The original all-male vocal troupe was formed in 1976. A second generation reached its heyday in the mid-1990’s. The group reemerged six months ago with a dozen young musicians coming aboard with a similar number of old-timers under the direction of Felipe de Jesus Ochoa Hernandez.

LLT season opens with a ‘must-see’

“Local Hero” is the opening production of Lakeside Little Theatre’s 49th Season. The comedy-drama is directed and adapted for the stage by Neal Checkoway, from Scottish writer-director Bill Forsyth’s original 1983 screenplay which starred Burt Lancaster and Peter Riegert.

Lakeside’s Centro Regional de Estudios Musicales (CREM) has been named as the beneficiary of assets being liquidated by the Music Appreciation Society (MAS) after three other prospective candidates bowed out of the running.

Marking the end of an illustrious 25-year history, the Music Appreciation Society (MAS) will be formally dissolved at a general assembly of the membership to be held Wednesday, October 9, 1 p.m. at La Nueva Posada (Donato Guerra 9, Ajijic).

Lakeside Little Theatre opens the curtain on its 49th season with the October 4 stage premier of “Local Hero,” an adaptation of the original screenplay by Bill Forsyth scripted by director Neal Checkoway.
