Ribera Arts Review - March 19, 2022

BRAVO!

In “Freud’s Last Session,” BRAVO! Theatre invites you to spend some time on Sigmund Freud’s couch! 

An imaginary conversation between Freud and writer C.S. Lewis provides some thoughtful and humorous observations on the meaning of life and the existence of God. Directed by Monnie King, with a cast of Peter King and Stan Rawson, the play has performances March 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27 at 4 p.m. and March 24, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets, 350 pesos, are available at Mia’s Boutique and It’s Kinda Bazar. Art celebration

pg17bGlenda Rogers will present her oils and watercolors at Yves’ Restaurant March 18-20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Ten percent of the proceeds go to benefit Yves’ Donkey Rescue.

LCS Art Fair

The Lake Chapala Society is holding a two-day Art Fair on March 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This fair will help the local arts community—especially Mexican artists who aren’t a part of organized arts groups, and artisans who have very few opportunities to show their handicrafts. This is also a fund-raiser for LCS programs that have suffered a loss of funding during Covid. 60 local artists and artisans will take part. Amission is 50 pesos. All Covid protocols will be followed, but proof of vaccination is NOT required.

Flamenco

A free concert by Cuarteto Flamenco will be presented at the Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo in Chapala, Sunday, March 20, 12:30 p.m. the peformers are Carlos Ivan de Leon, Gilbero Rios, Mariana Sierra and Julioo de la Isla.

Concerts in the Park

The Lake Chapala Society (LCS) Concerts in the Park series presents: Seth Sikes, Me and My Gals show, in a benefit for Food Bank Lakeside, Sunday, March 20, with shows at 2:30 and 5 p.m. Tickets are available at the LCS office or via the LCS website.

Art Auction

Efren Gonzalez will hold an art auction Wednesday, March 23, 4 p.m. in the Ajijic Plaza, north side. Live music starts at 3 p.m. Tequila and soft drinks will be available. Oils, acrylics, watercolors, sculpture will be on display as of 10 a.m.

Jewelry

Nancy Van Reeth will guide you in a jewelry creations workshop using alcohol ink on plastic paper to create one-of-a-kind earrings and pendants, March 24, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at La Bella Vida. Reserve at 376-766-5131.

Exhibit closure

Galeria Monica Cardenas in the central plaza of San Antonio invites you to the closure of the 3 Dimenciones exhibition Saturday, March 26, 4 to 7 p.m. Photographer Monica Cardenas presents photos of locals, who are welcome to pick up their photo. Also view paintings by Luci Williams and sculpture by Silvia Murillo. A discount of 10 to 15 percent is offered, as well as complentary wine.

Joint art showing

Judy Dykstra-Brown and Jesus Lopez Vega will hold a joint art showing titled “The Poet’s Eye, the Artist’s Tongue: Art and Words,” March 26, 3 to 7 p.m. at Lopez Vega Gallery, Rio Zula 1, corner of Ocampo. Mask required. The show is open for viewing Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through April 30.

Jazz

JPO concerts

Reserved seats for the last three concerts of this season are available by calling local coordinator Joyce Noriega at 376 766 1804. Dates; March 27, and April 3 and 10. Reserve by Monday or Tuesday before each concert. Pick up and pay at box office on day of concert.

Acting class

Bernadette Jones offers acting classes at BRAVO! Theatre. Six sessions of two hours over six weeks run Thursdays 10 a.m. to noon, starting March 31 and ending May 5, including two weeks of monologue work and four weeks of scene work.
