The Lake Chapala Orchestra is delighted to offer a free concert by the Kanus Quartet, four of its talented young string players, at Lakeside Presbyterian Church, Saturday June 24, 3 p.m.

The concert is a way of thanking the community for donating to the orchestra’s fundraising campaign to provide a travel bursary for the quartet’s upcoming participation in the Virtuoso and Belcanto Music Festival being held in Lucca, Italy July 17 to 30. The campaign raised over 30,000 pesos.

Brenda Galvin, Mariana Hermosillo, Luis Barrios and Isaac Reynega, performing as the Kanus Quartet, will be representing Mexico as some of the finest young musicians in Jalisco.

The concert will feature works by Haydn, Beethoven and Shostakovitch and is open to anyone who would like to hear these amazing musicians.

Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 250 San Jorge, Riberas del Pilar. Free admission and no need to reserve.

Lakeside Little Theatre President Brian Mattes is holding a cocktail party to benefit LLT, Sunday, June 25, 5 to 8 p.m. at his home, El Tempisque 13 in Ajijic. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and live music by Christy Carter Caldwell, Kristine Handgen, Brian Mathers, Johannys Jimenez-Hartog, Soffia Ramirez, Eleazar Soto, Robert Thieme and Doug Botnick in one of Ajijic’s most beautiful homes. Festive cocktail attire is recommended. Proceeds will be used for a new light control board, microphones, a smoke machine and other hardware needed for future shows. Family ambition collapses when they find out that the recently deceased Buoso Donati has left his entire fortune to a monastery. What macabre plan do his relatives develop? Gianni Schicchi, a comic opera in one act by Giacomo Puccini, will take the stage Friday, July 28, 7 p.m. and Saturday, July 29, 4 p.m. at the La Floresta Auditorio. Subtitles will be in English. Music directed by Rodrigo Leal. Summer Art Camp

The LCS Children’s Art Program is holding its annual Art Camp August 7 to 11, from 10 a.m. to noon. This popular community event usually attracts more than 120 local kids to various art workshops.
