• La Orquesta Típica de la Escuela de Artes de Jalisco, the Orquesta Típica de Chapala, and the Coro Redes y Cantos de Chapala will perform a free concert under the Salate de Felisa tree on the Chapala Malecón on Sunday, September 22, noon.
• American Legion Post 7 is hosting a Blues Jam on Sunday, September 22, 5 p.m.
• Mariana Vigueras Restelli will sing hits from Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, and Adele on Sunday, September 29, with concerts at 2:30 and 5:30 p.m. at Concerts in the Park at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS). Tickets are 350 pesos for general admission and 500 pesos for VIP seating, available on the LCS website.
• The CREM Music School in Ajijic presents “The Sound of Music” at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera on Friday, October 4, 7 p.m. and Saturday, October 5, 6 p.m. Tickets are 190 pesos in advance at Boleteria.com or the auditorium box office, and 250 pesos at the door.

• Artists of Lake Chapala are holding their first Art Market on Saturday, September 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Garden of Dreams boutique hotel, located at Constitución 105 in Ajijic. Admission is free, with food and drinks available for purchase.
• Poco a Poco is hosting a pop-up bazaar on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22, noon to 6 p.m. at Río Bravo 3 in Ajijic. The event will feature clothes, accessories, shoes, jewelry, bags, and wine. A silent auction will be held on Facebook and live at the bazaar. See the items on the Joyeria Mezcala Facebook page. • The Michaelmas Arts Fiesta will be held at the West Ajijic My Land Waldorf School, located at El Bajío 1B, next to Cervecería 8 Maltas, on Saturday, September 28, 2 to 5 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring poems to read or any other forms of art on the themes of peace, justice, or sustainability. • The Lake Chapala Society will hold its Art in the Garden sale on October 11 and 12, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will feature work by local artists and craftspeople, as well as art from the LCS Children’s Art Program. All spaces must be reserved in advance at the LCS office, Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., or through the LCS website.
BRAVO! Theatre
BRAVO! Theatre kicks off its 2024/2025 season with the hilarious and heartwarming comedy “Love, Loss and What I Wore.” This collection of stories about women covers all the important topics—mothers, prom dresses, bras, purses, and why we wear black. Performed by a cast of six women portraying almost 30 characters, the play explores the pivotal moments in their lives through the lens of the clothing they wore.
Directed by Suki O’Brien, the cast includes Debra Felix, Lynn Gustadt, Pamela Johnson, Christine L’Ecluse, Jayme Littlejohn, Kathleen Morris (understudy) and Patteye Simpson.

Exhibits
• Bajo La Lluvia—Under the Rain, an exhibition and installation by Xill Fessenden, is on display at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera through October 11.
• An exhibition of bronze statuary and prints by the late Gloria Eliès is on view at Casa del Sol Inn, located at Javier Mina 7 in Ajijic.
Bare Stage Theatre
September’s Bare Stage production, “Another Home Invasion” by Joan MacLeod, is directed by Ken Gass, a renowned Canadian theater director.
Gass and Roseann Wilshere have had a decades-long relationship, with him directing her in her first play at the age of 18 and later directing shows for her during her tenure as artistic director of Solar Stage in Toronto.
Gass was the founding artistic director of Factory Theatre (1970–1979; 1996–2012), where he directed numerous notable productions, including “The Rez Sisters” by Tomson Highway and “Belle” by Florence Gibson. He has also directed several acclaimed revivals of plays by George F. Walker.
Gass launched Canadian Rep Theatre, producing seven major productions since 2014, five of which he directed, including the highly acclaimed “How Do I Love Thee?” by Florence MacDonald.
In 2016, Gass also launched ENSEMBLE Canadian Youth Theatre/Théâtre Jeuness Canadien with graduates from several professional training programs. A playwright and screenwriter, Gass has also worked extensively in radio and television drama.
He is the winner of the Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, the George Luscombe Award for theatre mentoring, the Toronto Theatre Critic’s Award for contribution to Toronto Theatre, the Toronto Arts Award and recipient of the prestigious Silver Ticket Award.
