Ribera Arts Review - March 21, 2026

Art

• The Artists of Lake Chapala hold their monthly Art Market at the Centro para la Cultura y las Artes de la Ribera (CCAR) on Saturday, March 21, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission.

• Ajijic Rotary Club is holding a Gala Art Show and Auction, featuring Efren Gonzalez and friends, Sunday, March 22, at El Pilar Bistro, Hidalgo 261 in Riberas del Pilar. The auction will benefit the Mariachi Juvenil Axixic. Art will be on exhibit from 2:30 p.m.; the auction begins at 4 p.m. Entry tickets are 200 pesos and bidding paddles are 200 pesos. This includes the first glass of wine, beer or non-alcoholic beverage, botanas and valet parking. Entertainment is by the Black Sapphire Jazz Band. • Elmo’s Nephews and Uncle Pat will rock 9 pm. at Cameleon Bar, Constitucion 29 in Ajijic.

SATURDAY

• Tito Gonzalez and his Son Cubano play boleros and salsa Cubana Saturday, March 21, 6 to 9 p.m. at La Estacion, Hidalgo 75 in Riberas del Pilar. Cover is 150 pesos. RSVP: 332-623-9841.

• A free Cello Trio Recital, featuring Beth Vanderborgh, Stephanie Flores Guerrero and Leslie Jones, will be held at noon,  at the González Gallo Cultural Center in Chapala. This performance celebrates international female talent as part of the International Women’s Day activities.

• The Weekend Band, 8 to 11 p.m. and Funk, 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. will perform at Zona 503 at an event billed as Queen of San Antonio Pamela’s Community Birthday Party. The 150 pesos cover gets you a buffet by Mario’s, Adelitas and Alfonso’s.

• Pianist Emilio Galindo gives a free concert, “Walzes and Fantasies,” at the González Gallo Cultural Center in Chapala, 12:30 p.m.

• Medicnie Band: Juan Castañon, Wayne Watson, Denning Chambers, Horacio Salcedo and Pablo Lynch perform a concert of jazz, Latin jazz and blues on Tuesday, March 24, 6:30 p.m. at the Garden of Dreams Hotel, Constitucion 105 in Ajijic. • The Lake Chapala Orchestra (LCO) invites music lovers to an afternoon of rich Slavic color and sweeping Romanticism with Slavic Rhapsody, a special concert on Saturday, March 28, 2 p.m. at the Robert Kleffel Auditorium, located at the Instituto Tecnológico de Jalisco Chapala, Libramiento Chapala–Ajijic 200. Christian Jimenez, the acclaimed Principal Cellist of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra, will be the soloist for Antonín Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.  The Camerata of the Puerto Vallarta School Orchestra will present a concert supporting the 1 st Cataract Surgery Brigade in the Lake Chapala region. The concert is on Friday, April 17, 5 p.m. at the Auditorio del CCAR in La Floresta. Tickets, 350 pesos, are available at the Auditorio box office, Wednesday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Exhibits

• Forty-two graphic artists from Lakeside and Guadalajara unite for the second edition of Lagografias, the second edition of contemporary graphic arts showcasing many different styles, at the Centro Cultural Ajijic. The inauguration is on Saturday, March 21, 5 p.m. The exhibit will be up for three weeks.

• “Presence, Shared Encounters from Mexico,” an exhibit featuring photographs by Xill Fessenden and sculptures by Moises Perez Solis, is adorning the entrance and dining areas of Casa del Sol Inn. Javier Mina 7, Ajijic.

• Centro Cultural Gonzalez Gallo marks its 20th anniversary with “Rumores y Colores,” an exhibition by watercolorist Jorge Monroy. The opening is Saturday, March 28, 4:30 p.m. The exhibit showcases a selection of works dedicated to the landscapes and towns of Lake Chapala, capturing the light and atmosphere of the region with masterful technique.

 

London theatre

Lakeside Little Theatre (LLT) presents the National Theatre’s filmed production of “Inter Alia,” a new play by Suzie Miller, Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22. Oscar-nominated Rosamund Pike (“Saltburn,” “Gone Girl”) plays Jessica Parks, a maverick Crown Court judge.

Cell phone photography

A new five-week course on cell phone photography begins Wednesday, March 25, 10 a.m. at the Ajijic Cultural Center (CCA). Lead instructor Jill Flyer joins guest lecturers Robert Ashin, and Larry Wheaton.

Students will have the opportunity to participate with at least one photo in a special exhibit at the CCA. The cost for all five classes is 690 pesos. Vinyl buffs rejoice

La Perla Records Ajjic opened March 6 at Boulevard De Jin XI 46. Long a home for vinyl enthusiasts at Pedro Moreno 1530 in Colonia Americana in Guadalajara, one can hope that they bring their voluminous and constantly updated collection, along with La Perla’s relaxed vibe to Lakeside.

 

Auditions

• The BRAVO! Theatre will hold open auditions for their October production, “Unwrap Your Candy” by Doug Wright. The show consists of four short comedic plays — including the story of a fetus talking to its mother, a creepy real estate showing, and a tale of a child prodigy. • Las Voces del Lago is holding auditions for its Summer Concert with a Broadway theme to take place July 8 and 9. Singers are invited to be part of the magic through one of three ensembles: the Mixed Chorus, the Women’s Chorus, or the acclaimed chamber choir Nova Lux. Auditions (by appointment) are Monday and Tuesday, April 13 14,  10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Riberas del Pilar.
