To the untrained eye, Marcelo Tobar’s film “Oso Polar” (Polar Bear), which picked up the Best Mexican Feature award at the recent Morelia Film Festival, looks to all intents and purposes like any other movie made in this country on a limited budget.
“Coco,” a movie produced and helmed by U.S. filmmakers about Dia de los Muertos, has shattered box office records in Mexico, where it is now the top-grossing movie of all time with a present take of $US43 million, a number sure to keep climbing during the remainder of its theatrical run.
