What tempts thousands of extranjeros to put down roots at lakeside? There’s the idyllic climate and alluring natural setting.

While throngs of banda music fans relish rocking out to high-decibel dance tunes during lakeside’s frequent festivities, neighbors of the event venues may be tearing their hair out as the insufferable din persists into the wee hours.

Excluded from those appealing assets is noise. Constant and abundant noise. Trucks equipped with loudspeakers that deliver propane gas, sell produce or collect junk roaming our streets. Barking dogs and crowing roosters, vocalizing unintelligibly to the human ear. And common folk who lighten their daily chores and punch up special occasions with singing and music.  It’s all part of the auditory landscape, both here and in many more communities nationwide.

Mexico is famous for its vibrant festivities. Boisterous religious holidays, traditional festivals and family rites of passage are integral to the way of life.
