¡Ay, qué calor!

It’s that time of year when folks get all hot and bothered about the hot and bothersome weather.

Chill, it’s par for the course.

pg11aThe month of May and early days of June invariably constitute lakeside’s high-temperature spell. And right now the state of Jalisco is roasting under an intense heat wave.

This week’s forecast from the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional refers to the influence of an anticyclonic system and low-pressure channels hovering over the region that are pushing daytime thermometers into the range of 36 to over 40 degrees Celsius (i.e. 96.8°F to 104°F).

One local Google surfer learned that 2023 registered as Ajijic’s hottest year on record. This year’s numbers will likely go higher still.

So much for the false fantasy that NatGeo once named Chapala’s climate as second best in the world. We’re now in the throes of a periodic drought cycle, aggravated by climate change supposedly induced by reckless human activity and a vindictive Mother Nature.
