The Nativity as a screenplay treatment

Act I: It starts with the Annunciation. An angelic ambassador comes to Mary and tells her she’s pregnant. But not just with any child but with a very special one.

“Do you know who the father is?”the angel asks.  “I beg your pardon.” Mary responds, indignantly. “And no alcohol for nine months.” the angel adds and disappears.

Mary tells Joseph she’s with child. He’s delighted, not just because of the child tax credit, but because they may finally have a lawyer in the family.

Act II: On to Bethlehem to pay taxes, Mary’s gestation naturally progresses to term, since Joseph can only afford an arthritic donkey. Mary gets agitated over the long journey. She tells Joseph to find an inn to birth the infant.
