AI already seems to be suffering from dementia

Google has just rolled out its newest AI (artificial intelligence) search tool, and the results have been questionable, according to social media and something called AI Overviews, an analytics group.

While it can easily provide answers to simple questions, AI Overviews has also gotten answers such as “astronauts have met cats on the moon, played with them, and provided care.” More worrying, it also recommends “you should eat at least one small rock per day” as “rocks are a vital source of minerals and vitamins.” (True.) So AI can get weird.

That’s bad, because AI is infesting everybody of knowledge, every industrial endeavor and everybody’s personal questions about life, love and the meaning of the Easter Bunny. And I can’t help but wonder if we are on our way to eating one small rock a day.

“More than 100 million people across 185 countries use ChatGPT 3.5 weekly to learn something new, find creative inspiration, and get answers to their questions,” especially the night before exams. The ultimate crib sheet.
