More than 700 competitors took part in last Sunday’s Green Race at the American School, which served the double purpose of raising funds for worthy projects and promoting awareness on environmental issues.   Organized jointly with the U.S. Consulate General in Guadalajara, the annual race was divided into two categories: three and ten kilometers.  Part of the money raised is earmarked for the Casa Cem and Fundacion de Becas.

Giant yoga class

Around 130 people took part in the second mass yoga class during last Sunday’s Vía RecreActiva at the Minerva Glorieta.  Organizers have decided to make the free class a regular event to be held on the third Sunday of each month in the same location. Participants are asked to wear adequate clothing and bring their own yoga mat. After an hour-long warm up session, last Sunday’s  two-hour class ran until 12:30 p.m. Following the class, a Brazilian bachata group provided some lively sounds for dancing.

Technovation

Twelve groups of female high-school students will invent and design a cell phone application as part of this year’s American School Technovation competition.

Each team will be given four minutes on stage to explain the app that they have created with their team under the guidance of a professional “mentor.” All the presentations will be in English.

The event is designed to encourage female students to study computer science degrees after they leave high school.

Last year’s winners presented a “Panic Button,” an app that allowed users to discreetly notify a designated contact of their location if they feel they’re in a life-threatening situation and need help.

The event takes place in the auditorium of the American School Foundation of Guadalajara (Colomos 2100, Colonia Providencia) on Monday, April 27, from 6-8 p.m.
