Presbyterian Institute of Theology classes resume

Lakeside Presbyterian Church is now officially licensed and registered with the government of Mexico as the Instituto Teologico de Lago (Lakeside Institute of Theology).

The seminary-level courses provided by the Institute are designed for Christian growth for both lay people and those intending to serve as full-time ministers. The Institute is also certified to license ministers, an option for those completing the master’s level programs.

All are welcome and there is no charge to attend classes.

Here’s a rundown of LPC’s Seminary classes.

The Message of the Prophets (Wednesdays, beginning July 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.). The prophetic books of the Old Testament are certainly among the most fascinating works of literature ever written. The class will examine both major and minor prophets, their context, content and meaning for today.

The Early Church in Acts (Thursdays, beginning July 4, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.). The 30 or so years recorded in the book of The Acts of the Apostles are perhaps the most important in human history. From the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, the establishment of the Jewish-Christian church in Jerusalem, the first Gentile converts and the expansion to the west – this book records the details of how the Christian church was born. The class will examine the context and content of Acts, including its message today.

Church History 2 (Fridays, beginning July 3, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.). In the 1500s the Protestant Reformation turned the Western world upside down and inside out. In a very real way, almost all significant historical events in the West since that time have been either in support of the values and goals of the Reformation, or a reaction against it. The class will examine what led to the Reformation, the main characters and events of the Reformation, and how it has shaped the church and the world ever since.
