Children’s Art Program promotes folk art

On Saturday, August 2, maestros Jose Luis Cortez, an award-winning ceramicist from Tonala, and Jose Manuel Robles, a painter from Tlaquepaque, spoke to the children at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) Children’s Art Program about the importance of Mexican Folk Art and helped them with ideas for their artwork.

This was the kick-off of the second annual children’s art contest sponsored by the Feria Maestros del Arte, an annual folk art exhibit and sale held in Chapala every November.

Other special guests included Marianne Carlson, founder of the Feria, and board members Anne Flaningam, Bridget Andrews and Diana Ayala.

The winners will be announced on Saturday, August 17, 11 a.m. in the LCS gazebo. The public is invited for the celebration.

In addition to cash prizes, the winning artwork will also be exhibited during the Feria, scheduled November 15-17 at the Chapala Yacht Club. See www.mexicoartshow.com for more information.
