Race for orphans to benefit Villa Infantil

Instituto Terranova will hold its fifth annual Corre por Ayudar (Run to Help) charity foot race on Sunday, September 29, designated this year as a benefit for the Villa Infantil de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y San Jose orphanage.

The full 10-kilometer run starts from Chapala City Hall at 8 a.m., with the finish line marked at the Terranova campus on the west side of Ajijic.  There is also an alternate three-kilometer recreational route for persons who want to participate without going the full distance. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three places in all categories of the 10K race.

Registration is open in different age categories for children, teens and adults in exchange for a 150-peso sign-up fee, plus a donation in kind of non-perishable goods for the Villa Infantil pantry. Suggested supplies include powdered milk, beans, rice, masa flour, cookies and crackers, hand soap and shampoo. The first 300 runners enrolled will receive a commemorative t-shirt, along with the competitor’s number, drinking water, security and contributions to help sustain the home that are covered in the enrollment cost.

The Villa Infantil is located on Lake Chapala’s south shore near the village of San Pedro Tesistan. It relies on outside support to provide shelter, meals clothing and education to 20 homeless children and six resident adults.

Registrations for Corre por Ayudar are being accepted at Terranova, Chapala’s Comude office and the Marti sports store outlet at Centro Laguna. For more information call 766-3999 or 766-2401.
