Gourmet dinner to aid hospitality students

A fund-raising dinner to help offset the expenses for economically challenged students at the Jaltepec Technical School of Hotel and Hospitality is scheduled for Monday, October 21.

By patronizing this event you will be helping these young ladies land good paying jobs.

Hors d’oeuvres  will be served at 6:30 p.m.  Dinner, served at  7:30 p.m., features a starter of beef consommé with Parmesan cheese balls; a main course of either filet of fish with rainbow shrimp and bolo pan (bread) stuffed with spinach puree, or chicken breast stuffed with cheese, pecans and apricot sauce. Either choice comes with a rolled zucchini salad. Dessert is raspberry mousse pie. Tea or coffee, regular or decaf, is also served.

A no-host bar will be available. Timothy Welch will be providing the cocktail music.

At the institute the ladies learn every aspect of the hospitality business, from how to remove stains from clothing or make an unhappy customer smile, to preparing and organizing a sit-down dinner for 1,000 people. They acquire the skills needed to excel in their chosen fields.

The support of the lakeside community not only makes it possible for these young women to get ahead as individuals but also lifts the economic standard of their family units.

This year there is a change in venue. The new contemporary retreat with amazing lake views will host the shindig. It is on the same property, but is farther to the west. This retreat is disabled friendly and has ramps.

The cost requires a donation of 400 pesos per person.  RSVP by Monday, October 14, stating main course preference, to Linda Buckthorp at (376) 766-1631 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Those who would like to accompany their dinner with wine may pre-order Santa Alicia Reserva Merlot & Chardonnay at 200 pesos per bottle.  This will allow students to pre-label the bottle with the diner’s name and table number, thus providing speedier service.
