Fundraiser planned to help elementary school garden project

Join in an afternoon of fun-filled activities designed to raise funds to help children in the Ramon Corona Elementary School create and grow food in their own garden.

The “Planting a Seed of Hope” fundraiser is scheduled Saturday, December 6, 3-5 p.m. at Café Huerto in Riberas del Pilar.

A big attraction will be a performance by the school’s ballet folklorico group. Other events during the afternoon include a silent auction of donated items and a display of photos depicting the progress of the school’s garden.

The admission to enter the fundraiser is the donation of any new or used gardening equipment (preferably in small sizes). These may include shovels, rakes, trowels, gloves, a wheel barrow, earthworms and heirloom seeds. A suggested cash donation of 100 pesos is also another appropriate admission donation, but no one will be turned away due to a lack of funds.

The vegetables raised in the Ramon Corona Organic Food Garden help feed the families of the more than 40 children in the school’s fourth-grade class.

Café Huerto will provide no-host food and beverages during the afternoon reception. The cafe is at Hidalgo 212, on the Carretera next to Zona Gym and Toscano’s Restaurant in Riberas del Pilar.
