Christ Church Lakeside
The little church with a big heart, Christ Church Lakeside (CCL), a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the Sunday of Passsion, Palm Sunday, April 14, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist at 11 a.m. in La Huerta Events Center. Rev. Chris Wycock will preside and preach.

The Bible Study meets Thursday, April 18 and 25, 3 p.m., in the home of Elizabeth Carroll, Galeana 35 in Ajijic. All are welcome to learn about the inspired contents of the Bible and share their insights with each other.

“The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit” (Proverbs 15:4).
Think before you speak. Always be sincere when giving encouraging words (your words won’t go far if your actions don’t back them up). Remember, encouragement and advice are not the same thing. Try this: be your best encourager. As the verse says, perverse (or cutting) words crush the spirit. Are you crushing yourself with self-hatred? When you feel discouraged, hand that discouragement over to God. Ask Him to help you. Stop wounding and maiming yourself and others. Words cannot be recaptured once they’ve escaped our lips. Fortunately, the same goes for kind words, too. Ask God for help and try again. By His grace, your words will become “a tree of life.”

April 17, 5:30 p.m., Mel Gibson’s epic film “The Passion of Christ” will be shown in the fellowship room. The film for April 24 is “Polycarp,” where perfect love casts out fear.

Every Sunday, Operation Feed, the program supported by St. Andrew’s, welcomes donations of non-perishable food items. Boxed milk and empty cardboard egg cartons are especially welcome, in addition to rice, beans, pasta, lentils, garbanzos, oats, oil and salt. The parish distributes the donations to Lakeside’s neediest families.
Every donation or consignment made to St. Andrew’s resale shop, Todo Bueno, benefits the Outreach Ministry of St. Andrew’s. Todo Bueno is located on the Carretera, just west of S&S Auto in Riberas del Pilar. Open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Lakeside Presbyterian
Sunday, April 14, is Palm Sunday, which begins the observance of the last week of Jesus’ life. Pastor Bill Nichols will be talking about the throngs of people assembled in that week. Then, the congregation will look through the eyes of a man named Barabbas, as he sees the last day of Jesus’ life.
Friday, April 19, Lakeside Presbyterian observes the Tenebrae service at 10 a.m.
Dr. Wayne Cook will preach Easter Sunday, April 21, 10 a.m.

On April 4, two dozen LPC members drove to La Zapotera, where the church supports a community center and water filtration project. LPC provides the food to make breakfast for 100 to 120 schoolchildren every weekday, and the mothers do the cooking. It was a joyful trip, full of information, happy children, and a delicious lunch. Dian created balloon animals for the kids, who were fascinated and thrilled with their gifts.
Saturday morning classes for Spanish speakers continue: computer, sewing and English as a Second Language (ESL). The LPC nurse is on-site Mondays, 1 to 3 p.m., and Tuesday mornings.
Social Drop-In is Tuesdays, 2 to 4 p.m., and includes games, companionship and meeting new friends.

“Who Was Jesus Anyway?” is the topic of the meeting of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Sunday, April 21.
It’s Easter, so let’s talk about Jesus. Who was this man? What did he actually do? Why would we even care? We’ll try to do what most modern bible scholars do, which is to peel back the many layers of embellishment to make a good guess at who the historical Jesus (if he existed) actually was. It’s worth the effort, for we’ll find some surprises in the discovery. Also, as has been our tradition for some time, there will be chocolate on this day. Trudy Crippen is the service leader.
Sunday, April 28: “Expats or Migrants: Who Are We?” Not long ago, an article by Mawuna Remarque Koutonin in the Guardian asked the question, “Why Are White People Expats When the Rest of Us Are Immigrants?” This raised the issue of labels, and the effect they have on us, and in particular, these labels. Are we expats or migrants? How might being thoughtful about how we label ourselves make a difference in how we view others? How might we better understand each other? Susie Lindeman is the service leader.

Lakeside Community Fellowship is a new and vibrant evangelical Christian fellowship, meeting every Sunday, 10 a.m. at Hidalgo 441, in the new Bravo Theater directly adjacent to the Carretera.

Abundant Life Church
Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. Worship service in English is held Sundays, 10 a.m., and Bible Study, Wednesdays, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sundays, noon. Spanish Bible studies are Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and bilingual youth meet Sunday, 6:30 p.m. Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month. When something gets popular, there is no end to the number of merchants who will jump right on it. What is known as Easter is no exception. Frilly dresses and new wardrobes are no exception, nor are eggs and bunnies. Maybe it’s time for some honesty. From most sources, this term Easter seems to have been derived from a pre-Christian goddess in England whose name was Eostre. This fantasy was celebrated at the beginning of spring. The technical pattern is that Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox. So much for academics!
Honesty brings forth revelation. The Body of Christ has been willing to string along with worldly emphases. The Christian faith declares that this Easter Sunday event is focused on one triumphant event, the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Again, honesty tells us that it has absolutely nothing to do with bunnies, eggs, or wardrobe. The authentic focus is on the victorious Christ who conquered death, and born-again believers reap the eternal benefits. Pastors Paul and Susana Allen strongly urge all Christians to call it what it is, Resurrection Day.

A Kirtan Gathering will be held Sunday, April 21, 2:45 to 4 p.m. at Namaste Lake Chapala, a non-dual community at Angel Flores 5, in Ajijic. Kids day in San Pedro Itzican
“Paso a Paso” and the Marked group invite you to celebrate “Kids Day,” Friday, May 3 at the San Pedro Itzican Community Center. Over 2,000 children will be participating. Since inflattable houses have been the biggest hit with the kids every year, eight will need to be rented to accommodate this group. The cost is about 5,500 pesos. A donation of any amount will help.
