Lake Chapala Baptist

”All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.” (Proverbs 15:15.)

We take situations and replay them in our minds. We have conversations in our heads with people, and build a case against them, though we don’t really know what they are thinking. We tend to “nurse, curse, and rehearse” those things that happen to us. When we do this, we tend to make ourselves miserable and this reflects in our lives. It is important that we lead our lives in a positive manner and mirror God’s word. What are you meditating on? Get rid of the “oppressed and wretched” forecasts and share God’s love with others around you.

Brother John Whitener will bring the message on May 26.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church is at Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. English-language Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m.; English-language worship service is at 11 a.m. and Spanish-language worship service is 12:30 p.m.

Richard Clarke will lead the service.

Abundant Life Church

Is your life busy or a slow pace? Do you seem less or more stressed out than ten years ago?

The funny thing is that for many people, the changing of location or the advancement of years do very little as far as changing our lifestyle. Jesus expects the same of us. He changes us from the moment of our salvation and never expects that to slow down or be reversed. Jesus has a plan or a lifestyle that he expects all of us to emulate.

Sunday, May 26, Pastor Gary brings to light scripture that point our lives in the direction that we need to live them.

Abundant Life Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God of Mexico and has services for everyone. Worship service in English is held Sundays, 10 a.m. and Bible Study, Wednesdays, 3 p.m. Spanish-language services are Sundays, noon. Spanish Bible studies are Fridays, 6:45 p.m. A children’s ministry is held Saturday, noon, and bilingual youth meet Sunday, 6 p.m. Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month. Once a month, the women meet for a time of fellowship and the study of the Word of God (time and date announced each month).

The church is at Carretera Chapala-Jocotepec 140, San Antonio Tlayacapan, a block from Super Lake. Information: 331-417-7038.

Home Church Int’l

Probably a majority of people think good of themselves. Not being renegades, hateful or perverts, they will say, “I think I am a pretty good person.” Often one’s basic role in life leads  one to form opinions, good or bad. A catch in this assessment is the fact that some are wearing a mask. A case in point is a city pastor who felt his role as ruler of that domain. He knew everyone expected him to be the “holy” one.

Yet, our having known the church secretary quite well, she stated that, “He’s the meanest man I have ever known.”

Opinions are not the real issue. Surprisingly, Jesus was approached by a man seeking eternal life who called the prophet a “good teacher.” Jesus replied to illustrate a point, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but One, namely, God. If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” He was not really pushing rules or legalism, but holiness, an authentic relationship with the Heavenly Father.

Pastors Paul and Susana Allen point us to a saving relationship through Jesus Christ.

Riberas Meditation

Spiritual liberation – self-realization and enlightenment – come from knowledge, not from any action or activity, not from mental know-how, but rather from a deep internal knowledge. Self-realization is not transformation, but a revelation of who you are and always have been.

Ramana Maharshi was the leading Indian spiritual teacher of the 20th century. He taught the practice of self-inquiry as the most direct way to Self-knowledge. This is looking within yourself to see what is true – and what is not true – about your own sense of identity, your ego.

Weekly spiritual gatherings – satsangs – a time to come together and listen to contemporary teachers’ instruction on Ramana’s teachings and then meditation as a group – self-inquiry – are hosted Wednesdays, 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the house of Richard and Carol, San Luis 73, Riberas del Pilar. There is no cost for satsang and books and meditation materials will be provided. Space is limited, so register today at (376) 765-6976.
