Open Circle passes torch to Lake Chapala Society

Open Circle is the largest and longest-running expat program in Mexico, with a reputation that has spread far beyond Jalisco.

It began in 1995 as New Dimensions, organized by Joan and Roy Forman, with presentations in their home. It became Open Circle in 2001, and shortly thereafter moved to the Lake Chapala Society patio under the coordination of Marianne Warren, Hilary Stewardson, Derek Firth and Jim Spivey, who took over total responsibility in 2011.

In 2015, due to poor health, Spivey passed the reins to David Bryen and Margaret van Every, who established the Open Circle Steering Committee and expanded the program to include more art, music, science, psychology, health and history.

Last year, more than 13,000 people attended Open Circle talks – the highest number being 550 for a presentation by David Truly in February.
