Big band blowout breaks pandemic fatigue

In a burst of almost-post-pandemic euphoria, Los Amigos Big Band took the spotlight at El 4to [Cuarto] Sentido on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 7, to a capacity crowd on the restaurant’s large, second-floor terrace in San Antonio Tlayacapan.

pg14bThe fourth sense is taste, but the restaurant is one of the few venues putting on concerts at present, and this one seemed very welcome to the crowd of obvious big-band aficionados. Some couples were enticed by popular pieces such as “In the Mood,” Duke Ellington’s “It Don’t Mean a Thing” and work by Mexican composers, to doff their masks and take to areas between the widely spaced table and show off virtuosic swing dancing.
