Unitarian Universalist

Sunday, July 9, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will present “Back to the Roots,” at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Many Christians talk about getting back to ‘the religion of Jesus’ (which would really be Judaism) or at least the religion of the early church. We’ll examine what early Christianity might have looked like (warning: it’s more radical than you’d expect!) Why did Christianity change? How might those early teachings lead a more authentic understanding of Christianity?

Catherine Luria will be the service associate.

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar, next to Doppio Café, across the road from the Catholic Church.

Lakeside Presbyterian

Pastor Wayne, will talk about “A Tale Of Three Men,” Sunday, July 9, 11 a.m.,

In the New Testament, we read about the early church. There were apostles that had walked with Jesus, and the church experienced tremendous growth. But all was not perfect. They faced great persecution, there were false teachers, and there were ungodly people in the congregations.

One of the apostles who wrote to the early church was John, the Apostle of love. John wrote the Gospel of John, the book of Revelation, and the three epistles. In his third letter, he commends Gaius, a faithful Christian who showed hospitality to John’s missionaries. He also warns against Diotrephes, a proud and divisive leader who rejected John’s authority and opposed his helpers.

The letter of 3 John emphasizes the importance of walking in truth, supporting one another, and resisting false teachers. It also mentions Demetrius, another example of a good and trustworthy believer.

These three men are like three kinds of Christians found in the church in any age. Gaius is an example of a faithful and hospitable Christian. Diotrephes is an example of a proud and divisive leader. Demetrius is an example of a good and trustworthy believer.

In this sermon, we will explore the story of these three men and learn what they can teach us about how to live as faithful Christians today.

English-language service begins at 9:30 a.m. Spanish service begins 11 a.m. The English service also streams each Sunday at facebook.com/LPCChapala.

Abundant Life Church

Do you need a miracle?  There is a perception that a miracle will convince us that God is here and loves us but seeing a display of power lasts only a short time before the memory fades.  Come Sunday, July 9, as we look into the greatest miracle not being the healing, fire from heaven and emotional thrill that many talk about but rather the fact that we are now clean to stand before our creator.  God wants us to walk with him and be touched daily by him. Only those pure or clean can do that and boy what a miracle it is!

Services are on the Facebook page as well as the YouTube channel. The 10:30 a.m. English services schedule is at abuntandtlifechapala.com.

Located at Carretera 140 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, just a block from SuperLake.

Heritage Baptist

“All Christians are called as missionaries. Those who proclaim their belief in Jesus are enlisting as part of the army of Christ.” Pastor David App began his message this way, with the theme that’s been a lifelong driving force for him, and is the heart cry of Heritage Church.

The Lord will open the hearts of the called. We can rest in the assurance that the Holy Spirit is in charge of the hearts of those with ears to hear. And when the Holy Spirit comes into someone’s life, a light goes on. That’s the miracle of grace, irresistible grace. Wouldn’t you just love to witness that?

Join us at 11:30 a.m. in the Upper Room at the Presbyterian Church in Riberas del Pilar. Open prayer, then the worship service at 11:45.
