Unitarian Universalists

Sunday, August 20, Rev. Matt Alspaugh will present “ Projects vs Purpose” at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

“I’ve found that trying to develop and state a sense of Life Purpose or Mission has not worked for me; I just can’t summarize my life’s direction in a simple statement. I recently discovered an idea that might fit me better, “Personal Projects.” This is the idea that we explore the projects in our lives, all those activities big or little in our daily lives. By reflecting on the ecosystem of these projects (there may be dozens or even hundreds) we get a sense of who we are and where we are going.

The service for August 27 will feature Loretta Downes speaking on “End of Life Planning, Mexican wills and Legacy Giving.”

Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar, next to Doppio Café, across the road from the Catholic Church.

Lake Chapala Baptists

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:16-17)

John 3:16 is one of the most known and beloved Scriptures in the Bible. It gives us hope and promise but it isn’t finished there. John 17 completes the words, and they are powerful. Jesus came to save the world.  Not just you and me, but everyone regardless of their beliefs or actions. God loves all his people. If we are to follow His word, we must also love all His people. “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.) (1 John 4:20).  Jesus taught Love. It is our responsibility to follow where He has led.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church, Santa Margarita 147, Riberas del Pilar. English-language worship service is Sunday, August 13, 10:45 a.m. The Spanish-language worship service is at 12:30 p.m. Information: 331-608-0856.

Lakeside Presbyterian This Sunday, August 20, Pastor Carolyn will talk about “Light and Life.”

We have been given four gospels and four ways of looking at Jesus’ life and ministry: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Each one is different, but John’s gospel has an entirely different take from the other three. John doesn’t start with a genealogy or any record of Jesus’ birth, childhood, temptation, transfiguration, ascension, or great commission. John doesn’t record ANY of Jesus’ parables. It is full of deep meaning—including how Jesus came to bring both life and light to the world.

English-language service begins Sunday, 9:30 a.m. and also streams each live at facebook.com/LPCChapala. Everyone is welcome to Wednesday drop-in Bible study at 10 a.m.

If you need a ride, or more information, call 376-106-0853 before 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Coffee and refreshments after the service in the Narthex.

Heritage Baptist Church

“I Dreamed a Dream” was the title of the sermon last Sunday, another stellar message exhorting us to faith, constant prayer, and unity of spirit.

When God gives you the dream of your heart, and you are 1,000% certain it is from God, you can expect both an answer from the Almighty and a response from the enemy. Learning from Nehemiah’s methods of working with God, we see three main steps to manifesting a dream of the heart: 1. Evaluate the dream. Don’t move without God’s guidance; simply wait and pray. 2. Expect opposition and faith-testing, demanding work. 3. Keep working anyway.

God builds in Christ. It’s His Church! Yes, the work of God’s dream is hard. In fact, it’s impossible without His help.

Heritage is a fledgling Baptist Church seeking out our eternal family, one precious soul at a time. Join us in the “Upper Room” at the Presbyterian Church in Riberas (please use the San Marcos side entrance near the lake). Sundays at 11:15 a.m.: Open prayer, then wisdom direct from the Word. Wednesdays: Bible study at 4:30 p.m. Info: HeritageBaptistChurchofMexico @gmail.com, or visit our Facebook page.
