Unitarian UniversalistFellowship

Sunday, January 14, Rev. Rev. D. Scott Cooper will speak on “Inspired.”

Rev. Scott is Associate Minister at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Houston.

“It’s become a tradition at year’s end at the Houston church to reflect on lives we may look toward for inspiration, especially those individuals who passed away the previous year. Then, just two weeks later, the United States sets aside a Monday to reflect on the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the minister, political philosopher, and prominent civil rights leader. To whom do we look to for inspiration, and by doing so,
perhaps even provide inspiration to others.”

Cat Barnett is the service associate.

The January 21 service will feature Rev. Tim Boeve speaking on “The Power of Connection.”

LCUUF services are Sundays, 10:30 a.m. at Hidalgo 261, Riberas del Pilar, next to Doppio Café, across the road from the Catholic Church

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Pastor Carolyn, will talk this week about: “Now I Can See.”

The Gospel of John answers the question of who Jesus is. This question of his identity is part of every story, every conversation, every argument Jesus has with the religious leaders. In John chapter 9, Jesus performs a miracle that is verified by every possible witness—even those who oppose him. If you believe only God can do miracles, the question of Jesus’ identity should be answered by this story. And yet . . . some will not be persuaded. What does it take to believe?

The English language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala. The Spanish language service begins at 11 a.m.

Heritage Baptist Church

Sunday’s message was from Nehemiah 9, which begins with the reading of the Word of God before the nation of Israel. This is followed by prayer and fasting, leading to the confession of sin, and separation from the ungodly. Consequently, they began to worship God and praised God because He is worthy to be praised. They praised God because He brought them out of Egypt and led them through the wilderness, and they praised God because he is a gracious and merciful God.

The contrast of Nehemiah 9 is even though God is “gracious and merciful” the Israelites were proud, stubborn, and rebellious. They responded to God’s great kindness, goodness and mercy with blasphemies. Again, God shows He is merciful and long-suffering. Ultimately Israel sees the gracious hand of God and renews their covenant with Him. What a reminder, that if we confess our sins to Christ, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins. Do you know this Christ? Will you turn to Him and receive mercy and grace?

Heritage is a fledgling Baptist Church seeking out our eternal family. Join us upstairs at the Presbyterian Church in Riberas del Pilar Sundays at 11:15 a.m. for prayer, then the Word at 11:45 a.m. Wednesdays: Bible study at 3 p.m. Info: 333-016-3743, This email address is being protected from spambots. Lake Chapala Baptist Church

Pastor Larry continued his sermon theme with “The Magnificent Mystery Men” (Luke 1-2). In Luke 3:23-37, God’s Spirit fulfilled the promise to Simeon to see the Messiah before he died. Anna, the prophet, was faithful in speaking for God and proclaiming His truth.

The wise men show the anticipation of Gentile acceptance into the Kingdom of God. In Matthew 2:1-8, Herod plotted against baby Jesus, but the Lord’s angel guided Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus to safety in Egypt until after Herod’s death. Finally, Matthew 13:44-46 compares Jesus to a pearl of incomparable value that a man will forfeit everything to acquire the pearl. All of these lessons making us aware that God has provided a sacrifice for His elect.
