Weekly Worship - February 24, 2024

Heritage Baptist Church

Beginning an exposition of the Hebrew Epistle a person becomes very aware of our smallness and the immensity of God.

The Epistle sets forth, “the incomparable superiority of Jesus Christ.” As Paul encouraged those Hebrew believers to be anchored in Christ despite rejection, hatred and persecution, he does so by showing them that God Speaks. God spoke to them by the prophets of old but now speaks to them through Jesus Christ. R Kent Hughes says God’s eloquence in the past was a cosmic eloquence. Kepler, the astronomer who coined the term satellite said, “to be an astronomer and not recognize that there is a God who created and orders the universe is madness.” David declared (Psalm 19); “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” As we face opposition in our day our defense is the same because God speaks through Jesus Christ.

Lake Chapala Baptist

Pastor Whitener’s sermon, “A Path Discovered,” Matt. 7:13-14, showed many wide smooth paths begin in the Lowlands. The path is easy, crowded and noisy. Many people are here. Then, the path leads to a mountain. This path is narrower, rockier. Few people travel this rougher path. Paul said be certain “God, who began the good work …will continue His work until … finished.” Life’s goal is to “live pure and blameless”; and “ … be filled with the fruit of your salvation, righteous character produced … by Jesus Christ ...” (Phil. 1:6; 10b-11a). Paul reminds us that God completes our sanctification. “We will see … with clarity” and “… know … completely, just as God now knows me …” “We climb lightly. We discard our sin. Jesus bears it for us. We reach the summit without excess weight because we discard our sin baggage by believing and confessing” (1 John 1:9). Finally, we endure our race “by keeping our eyes on Jesus … “ (Heb. 12:1).

Lakeside Presbyterian

This Sunday’s sermon by Dr. Wayne Cook is about “Experiencing the Glory of God,” based on the book of John.

Moses wanted to see God’s Glory but was allowed only to see the backside of God. Glory has sometimes been defined as the holiness of God revealed. Jesus was the greatest revelation of God and so in looking at Jesus, people were allowed to see God’s glory for the first time face to face. So we encounter God’s glory in John 12:

But that all changed when Jesus, God in human flesh, arrived in the world.  He said, “If you have seen me, you have seen the Father.”

The 2024 annual general meeting is this Sunday after the English language service.

The English language service is at 9:30 a.m., which also streams live at facebook.com/LPCChapala. The Spanish language service begins at 11 a.m.
