“Our home is our castle,” as the saying goes—a shelter from the weather and other outside influences, a defense against physical and mental threats, both real and imagined, to our private space. It is a harbor for our secrets and fears, a refuge for our children and family.
All this and more is the subject of Joan MacLeod’s perceptive and poignant play, “Another Home Invasion,” presented by Bare Stage at the end of this month. The word “another” carries a double meaning: something both ordinary and entirely different. Who, then, are the real perpetrators of the heartless betrayal of the elderly couple in the story? Who is robbing them of their possessions, security, relationship, family—their home? The answers to these questions are as surprising as they are unsettling.
Joan MacLeod, who grew up in North Vancouver, studied Creative Writing at both the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia. Now an internationally celebrated playwright, she has won numerous awards for her work.
Bare Stage’s production features Artistic Director Roseann Wilshere in this one-woman show, directed by Ken Gass and produced in association with Solar Stage.
