Spiritual Fruit and Spiritual Disciplines
Text: 2 Timothy 1:6-10: This week, we begin a new sermon series focusing on how to live as a true follower of Jesus. We’ll discuss how to pursue and practice habits that God will use to transform our heart, mind, and soul so that we can become more like Jesus. We begin by looking at the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control—that comes as a result of God’s work in our lives and enables us to live an abundant, Christlike life.
If you believe the inner transformation of your life is a goal worthy of your best effort, spiritual disciplines are a necessity. Which practices are you already implementing? Which ones can you work on? Together, let’s work on the ones that help us produce spiritual fruit.
Church start times have changed: the English-speaking service now begins at 10 a.m. and the Spanish-speaking service is at 11:30 a.m.

Heritage Baptist Church
Paul says in Romans 6:14 “For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” Wow. It describes the Christian life as a life of triumph over the power of evil. But wait a minute, Romans 7:18-19 says, “For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.” This is the experience of all Christians. It is part of the curse of sin while we live on this corrupted earth. The process of sanctification takes place daily in spite of our failures, as we confess our sin, learn to hate and forsake it, and God by His grace conforms us to the image of His Son.
So, if you are frustrated by the struggle with sin in your life, don’t give up the fight but learn to depend on God’s Word and through Christ indwelling you by His Spirit you will overcome.

We’ll explore this question, “What Does a Good Day Look Like?,” not just in the context of end of life, but in the larger sense of how our good days define a good life.
There will also be a New Member Welcome Ceremony during this service.
Ted Fahy is the service associate.
