Heritage Baptist Church
Consider the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 B.C., according to William Shakespeare. Mark Antony, delivered his funeral address.
The members of the senate who were responsible for Caesar’s death did not permit Mark Antony to incite the crowds; however, they did allow him to offer a eulogy. And this is how it began: “Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.”
But then, Antony proceeded to do just that, recounting Caesar’s successes. He held up a document and said, “Here’s a parchment the seal of Caesar, ‘tis his will.” “To every Roman citizen he gives…seventy-five drachmas… with Moreover, he hath left you all his walks, his private arbors and new-planted orchards. He hath left them to you and your heirs forever.” The people responded in gratitude and ran the conspirators out of the city.
What gratitude do you have for the one who has given you an eternal inheritance? God promises us all the treasures of heaven. Galatians 3:29: “If you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to his promise.” Jesus wrote His last will and testament in His blood. The inheritance is yours, now finish the race well and you will receive it.

Eckankar
Everything revolves around love. It always does. No matter how much we rush about in this world and how harried, ambitious, or sorrowful we become, the world stays together for some reason. The reason is God’s love. God’s love is the fabric that draws us all here. It makes the whole work, even though sometimes it looks like nothing is working at all.
The two supreme laws are: God is love, and Soul exists because God loves it.
But how do you make this work out in everyday life? Whenever you’re in doubt about any action, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it Kind? You can also ask, What would love do?
Everyone has some experience with love—even a child who has a pet kitten or a dog. Soul is trying, to give back or respond to God’s love that’s coming through. (The above text is from Spiritual Wisdom on Relationships by Harold Klemp.)
You are invited to meet with other like-minded Souls for open non-denominational spiritual discussions Tuesdays, 2 to 3:15 p.m. at Lake Chapala Society. (See advertisement in the Weekly Worship section. www. eckankar .org.)

Lake Chapala Baptist Church
Two weeks ago, in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Vlado Novakovic captured dramatic video of his North Carolina home lifting up off its foundation. Like some kind of ark, the home floats away down the path of the raging deluge. You can’t help but feel his great loss as you watch, as well as a gratefulness that he is safe. Fear is real for many wondering if their homes will hold.
As we discern how to help those in need, Jesus affirms that other kind of storms and foundations also matter: “Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.”

Sermon title for Sunday, October 13 is “Joy and Celebration” from Philippians 4:4-9.
In our current sermon series, Pastor Carolyn Hansen is looking at the fruit of the Spirit in light of several Christian disciplines. This week, the aspect of spiritual fruit we’re exploring is JOY! And the discipline that’s most closely tied to joy is celebration. If you haven’t thought about celebration as something that requires discipline, you’re not alone. To get more joy in your life, you need the discipline of celebration.
