Pastor Carolyn is continuing our sermon series on the fruit of the Spirit—and the spiritual disciplines that can help us grow in that fruit. Gentleness is about being sensitive and compassionate, resisting harshness or aggression. This quality, when it’s internalized, allows us to approach others with love and respect, promoting peace. The spiritual discipline of controlling our speech can help us develop gentleness and humility.

Heritage Baptist Church

Do good so you can receive good. No. The gospel says, “Receive good so that you can do good.”

We can’t be good enough. Even if all the wrong we’ve done never goes public, it’s there. We know it. God knows it. Satan knows it. And that’s enough for it to be a nagging plague. But what if the Sovereign Judge of the Universe declares you guiltless, all your sins washed away!

Your record erased forever.

We ourselves can’t erase our past. We can’t pay enough.

But Jesus paid the infinite price capable of clearing the sin record. “I’ll remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more” says the Lord. All your sin failures, all your violations of the perfect law of God, gone. You may still bear the temporal consequences of them, but not the guilt. Temporal consequences are small compared to eternal wrath.

Turn from your sin to the Savior. Nothing more needs to be done.

Sunday service is at the American Legion in Chapala at 10:30 a.m. Cell: 331-437-7281 or 333-016-3743, Email: HeritageBaptistChurchMexico @gmail.com.

Eckankar

Everything revolves around love. It always does. No matter how much we rush about in this world and how harried, ambitious, or sorrowful we become, the world stays together for some reason. The reason is God’s love. It makes the whole work, even though sometimes it looks like nothing is working at all.

The two supreme laws are: God is love, and Soul exists because God loves it.

But how do you make this work out in everyday life? Whenever you’re in doubt about any action, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it Kind? You can also ask, What would love do?

Everyone has some experience with love—even a child who has a pet kitten or a dog. Soul is trying, to give back or respond to God’s love that’s coming through. (The above text is from Spiritual Wisdom on Relationships by Harold Klemp.)

You are invited to meet with other like-minded Souls for open non-denominational spiritual discussions Tuesdays, 2 to 3:15 p.m. at Lake Chapala Society.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church

Woo-hoo! Joint unity service this week with our Mexican and English speaking congregations! We are so excited! After bilingual songs, sermon and communion stay for a full Thanksgiving meal with turkey and all the fixings! We’d love to have you join us! Jesus’ vision for his people is that, once we understand how loved we are, that we would love each other with the same sacrifice and commitment he has for us. We look forward to a moment of joy together as we take our next step on that journey. Our song will be richer with your voice and our fellowship richer with your presence. As the scripture encourages, we’ll share God’s word, our lives, our bread and our prayers (Acts 2:42).

Unitarian Universalist

Fellowship

David Elison will present “Replacing Dogmas with Core Values” at the next meeting of the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, Sunday, November 24.

Dave Ellison was a true-believer, accepting without question both Catholic and United States dogmas. His life experiences, however, as both a teacher and a traveler, led him to discard any and all prescribed notions, and to embrace stoic existentialism. Indeed, he finally recognized that beliefs matter far less than values—moral principles and goals—which guide his daily life. In this talk, Dave will briefly review his philosophical journey, and then focus on these values, and why he chose them; culminating with his current credo which embodies them.

During his thirty-six-year career, David Ellison was a teacher, mentor teacher, school administrator, education columnist and community activist. He worked in schools foreign and domestic, public and private, grades four through college. His treks through five continents included volunteering in far-flung villages, and surviving harrowing adventures.

Dee Dee Camhi is the service associate.

Sunday service is at  noon, at the Lake Chapala Unitarian Universalist Fellowship’s new location at San Luis 19 in Riberas del Pilar and online. See lakechapalauu.org for a Zoom link.
