Weekly Worship - November 30, 2024

Lakeside Presbyterian Church

Sermon title for Sunday, December 1, is “The Meaning of Fasting” from Matthew 6:16-18.

For most of humanity’s history, fasting has been used as a spiritual practice, not a weight-loss technique. There were some medical uses of fasting in ancient times. But that kind of fasting was only recommended for people who suffered from a particular ailment, not the average healthy person. This week Pastor Carolyn will be talking about the place fasting has in modern Christian life and its relationship to growing spiritual fruit.

Sunday English-speaking worship service begins at 10 a.m. Spanish service at 11:30 a.m.

Heritage Baptist Church

Authentic church worship is in-person worship!

Hebrews 10:24+25 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

The virtual church is where people simply watch church services on the internet. Is the on-line worshiper really attending a church, or even really worshiping?

We are told in Acts 2:47 “And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.” His body is a visible gathering of many members brought together (Romans 12:4-5) to be a witness unto Christ. An internet worshiper misses out on several important marks of the true church; serving together, encouraging one another, fellowship and accountability.

Return to the pattern for churches that God has given in the bible. Join us at the American Legion, Chapala. Sundays at 10:30. Starting with a Prayer meeting at 10 a.m.

We invite you also on Monday, December 23, 3 to 5:30 p.m. at the same venue for a very special Old-Time Christmas Carol Singalong! There will be prizes, surprises, and lots of grand old carols (lyrics provided). It is free!

Eckankar

Everything revolves around love. It always does. No matter how much we rush about in this world and how harried, ambitious, or sorrowful we become, the world stays together for some reason. The reason is God’s love. It makes the whole work, even though sometimes it looks like nothing is working at all.

The two supreme laws are: God is love, and Soul exists because God loves it.

But how do you make this work out in everyday life? Whenever you’re in doubt about any action, ask yourself: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it Kind? You can also ask, What would love do?

Everyone has some experience with love—even a child who has a pet kitten or a dog. Soul is trying, to give back or respond to God’s love that’s coming through. (The above text is from Spiritual Wisdom on Relationships by Harold Klemp.)

You are invited to meet with other like-minded Souls for open non-denominational spiritual discussions Tuesdays, 2 to 3:15 p.m. at Lake Chapala Society.

Lake Chapala Baptist Church

As Christmas approaches, believers around the world celebrate the wonder of Christ’s first coming, the moment when God stepped into history as a humble baby in Bethlehem. This profound event fulfilled centuries-old prophecies, bringing hope to a world yearning for redemption. In the incarnation, the eternal Word became flesh and dwelt among us, revealing God’s boundless love, mercy, and grace towards His creation. The first coming of Jesus was a story of humility and divine purpose. Born in a stable, announced to shepherds, and sought by wise men, Christ’s arrival overturned human expectations of power and glory. He came as a servant King, bringing salvation to the lowly and outcasts, the Holy Emmanuel—God with us. Now in a world of darkness, there is hope, peace, and joy in the promise of His presence. When He returns, what kind of King will He be? Glorious, sovereign, final, and triumphant!
