Citizens help map Chapala’s path forward

The Chapala municipal government has resumed its series of public meetings aimed at developing planning strategies for the remainder of the current administration. The most recent session took place Wednesday, May 14, at Ajijic’s Centro Cultural.

pg14aThe program, titled Juntos Hacemos un Plan (Together We Make a Plan), was launched in Chapala on April 9, followed by a second session on April 11 in the Atotonilquillo delegation. The meetings were paused over the Easter holiday period and resumed on May 6 in San Nicolás de Ibarra, May 12 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, and May 14 in Ajijic. The final scheduled session is set for Friday, May 16, in Santa Cruz de la Soledad.

Residents of each community are invited to take part in roundtable discussions focused on specific areas of government and public interest: Government Efficiency, Economy and Tourism, Social Development, Municipal Sustainability, and Security and Peace.

All sessions begin at 6 p.m. to encourage participation at a time when most residents are free. Each meeting typically runs for 60 to 90 minutes.

Each discussion group is led by one or more government officials, who help participants identify key issues, explore their origins and consequences, and propose practical solutions.

In Ajijic, the roundtable that drew the most interest centered on environmental concerns and sustainability. By contrast, the table designated for public security remained empty, suggesting that crime and safety are not pressing issues for most local residents at this time.

Common concerns raised across various groups included trash, littering, solid waste management, street maintenance, and traffic congestion.

City Hall officials have not yet announced when the results of the planning consultations will be released or which actions will be prioritized before the current administration’s term ends in September 2027.
