The Thomas Paine Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) was organized in April 1999 in Chapala. Thomas Paine members support several local organizations, including Food Bank Lakeside, Needle-Pushers and Puerta al Ingles.
Its main objective is to promote education by assisting local students. The Chapter is currently providing scholarships to five Lakeside university students attending educational institutions in metropolitan Guadalajara.
The National Society DAR was founded in Washington, DC in 1890 as a nonprofit, nonpolitical volunteer women’s service organization. Its objectives are to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to join the DAR.
The local chapter welcomes guests or prospective members. If you are interested or would like to attend a meeting, contact members via thomaspainedar.org.
