Lillie Mae Henley presents “A talk on Family System Theory” at the next meeting of Open Circle at the Lake Chapala Society, Sunday, October 6, 10:30 a.m.
This is a candid look at the emotional systems of humans and seeing mental and psychological challenges as issues stemming from the primal brain. Henley looks at Dr. Murray Bowen’s work which was defined after he studied natural life sciences, evolutionary processes, and the development of systems theory in relation to the emotional system of human beings.

10 years of Tails
Tails of Mexico was founded in 2014 and has conducted 42 spay and neuter clinics at Lakeside. To celebrate its 10th anniversary and recharge funding for the next clinic, this volunteer organization is hosting an evening filled with festivities, music, and a Mexican buffet, Thursday, October 10, 4 p.m. at the Racquet Club in San Juan Cosala. Oktoberfest
American Legion Post 7 will hold an Octoberfest celebration, Saturday, October 12, 2 to 6 p.m. including a beer garden, music, dancing, drawings and a meal of bratwurst, chicken or veggie schnitzel, traditional German side dishes and desert for 250 pesos. Proceeds go to Love in Action Home for Children. Tickets at the Legion.
Cooking Club
The Lakeside Cooking Club will hold its next meeting Wednesday, October 16 at Club Positivo, Calle San Lucas 217 in Riberas del Pilar. Red Cross Bazaar
The Cruz Roja Chapala is collecting items for a bazaar to be held Saturday, October 26 in front of Min Wah restaurant.
Drop off donations of home goods, appliances, women’s, men’s and children’s clothing Monday to Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at either Chapala Red Cross, González Gallo 1 in Chapala or Fracc. Vista Alegre Guardhouse, Libramiento 145, San Antonio Tlayacapan.
Paella Fest
The 4th Paella Festival of Lake Chapala takes place Saturday October 19, noon to 7 p.m. at the Center for Culture and Arts of the Ribera (CCAR). It is a culinary competition and also a fundraiser for Poco A Poco San Pedro Itzicán, a non-profit organization that helps the people in the villages east of Mezcala.
The Jazz Lakeside Trio and flamenco music and dance by Solea will entertain. Entry, 800 pesos, includes a glass of sangria, gazpacho, Spanish tortilla, Valenciana salad, raspberry liqueur, dessert and selections from more than 13 types of paellas and dessert. Life and Death at LCS
LCS is holding its annual Intercultural Celebration of Life and Honoring Death ceremony Monday, October 28. A variety of complementary activities are wrapped into the program on other dates, starting Friday, October 18 with the installation of the “Before I Die” chalkboards for people to inscribe personal wishes. This year the theme is Healing Grief. Sunday, October, 27, 10:30 a.m., Loretta Downs will present a talk at Open Circle on how rituals help heal grief.
