Open Circle

Dale Palfrey presents “Tales from the Tomb” at the next meeting of Open Circle at the Lake Chapala Society, Sunday, October 20, 10:30 a.m.

Many people are not aware that more than 500 foreign residents have been laid to rest in Chapala’s Municipal Cemetery since 1955. Among them are many former leaders of the expatriate community, including 14 former LCS presidents, benefactor Ed Wilkes whose Ajijic home now houses the Wilkes Education Center, a number of outstanding artists, dozens of military veterans, and the first victim of Chapala’s notorious Black Widow.

Dale will share some of their stories and talk about the history of the foreign sections of the cemetery and a current effort spearheaded by American Legion Post 7 to revitalize the grounds.

Red Cross Golf

The Chapala Chapter of Cruz Roja (Red Cross) has set an ambitious target for its 22nd Annual Golf Tournament, to be held on Thursday, November 7 at the Chapala Country Club.

The aim is to more than double the funds raised from last year’s record of 176,000 pesos to 500,000 pesos. Thanks to an anonymous matching grant secured by Cruz Roja President Yoli Martinez, this would bring the total to one million pesos.

The funds will go toward   finishing the new Cruz Roja building near the Cristianía Park in Chapala, to replace the old one that is subsiding.

Tickets for the golf tournament are priced at 1,500 pesos for Chapala Country Club members and 1,700 pesos for non-members, available at the Country Club Pro Shop.

The price includes a continental breakfast before the event and a dinner afterward, with a choice of pig roast or vegetarian lasagna. There will be both a live and silent auction featuring a range of impressive and beautiful items.
