Open Circle

Greg Kemp presents “Learning Love” at the next meeting of Open Circle at the Lake Chapala Society, on Sunday, November 3, 10:30 a.m.  Kemp will outline the five levels of love; the Spectrum of Love and its opposites; read mystical poetry from Rumi and Hafiz; discuss falling in love, heartbreak and grief; yearning for an unknown better; and the practical application of love in the world.

Vote From Abroad

Volunteers will be available to provide last-minute voting assistance to U.S. citizens on November 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LCS Blue Patio.

Not to be missed!

Drag Formations, a fun fundraising event at the Lake Chapala Society Thursday, November 7, 5 p.m. where three mentors will transform brave contestants into first time Drag Queens. Each volunteer will represent a charity (Niños Incapacitados, Project Pancho and Poco a Poco San Pedro). They will compete in three categories dressed in drag (a first for them!) The winning Drag Queen gets 50 percent of the proceeds for their charity and the other two charities will share the remainder. The doors open at 4 p.m. Tickets are 500 pesos per person, available at Fenix Realty and Lucky Bar. Reserved tables area available with the purchase of eight tickets. Food and drink will be available at Casa Linda in the garden. A 50/50 drawing and tequila shots sales go to the charities.

Golf Tournament

The Chapala Chapter of Cruz Roja (Red Cross) will hold its 22nd Annual Golf Tournament on Thursday, November 7, at the Chapala Country Club. This year, the Red Cross aims to double last year’s record of 176,000 pesos, with a goal of 500,000 pesos. Thanks to a matching grant from Cruz Roja President Yoli Martinez, the total could reach one million pesos.

Tickets for the tournament are 1,500 pesos for Chapala Country Club members and 1,700 pesos for non-members. They can be purchased at the Country Club Pro Shop and include a continental breakfast and dinner (with a choice of pig roast or vegetarian lasagna). There will also be live and silent auctions featuring impressive items.

Chiles en Nogada

A chiles en Nogada festival will be held on the Chapala Malecon Saturday, November 9, 1 p.m.

Lakeside Cooking Club

The Lakeside Cooking Club cooks/presenters delighted members and guests with their tasty Oktoberfest dishes at their October 16 meeting, held at Club Positivo in Riberas del Pilar. Janet Jorch won first place for taste in the savory dishes category for her sauerkraut salad (shown below) and Geanie Tilley took first place for taste in the sweet dishes and appearance with her Bavarian cream with cherries.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, November 20 with harvest time, cooking in small groups as the theme.
