Open Circle

Vickie Christensen will present “Scholarships for Lakeside Children: Saving Futures Through Education” at the next Open Circle meeting on Sunday, February 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Society.

Christensen will discuss this scholarships program, which, in partnership with some Rotary Club members, is helping many lakeside families with school-age children.

Jaltepec Open House

Centro Educativo Jaltepec, the only regional Tecnico Universitario offering a degree in Hotel and Hospital Management, will hold an Open House on Wednesday, February 5, at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public.  They will present the history of the institution, their academic offerings, and the scholarship program, followed by a tour of the newly reconstructed campus after eight years of demolition and renovation.

The event will conclude with a lunch prepared and served by the students, showcasing the quality of their education.  Seating is limited. Book signing

Author and artist Ardelle Holden will be signing her new mystery novel, “Killing Imaginary Friends,” on Saturday, February 1, at Arte in the Plaza in Centro Laguna Mall and again on Saturday, February 8, at the LCS Art in the Garden event.

Super Bowl events

American Legion Post 7 Chapala will host a Super Bowl viewing on Sunday, February 9. Game time is approximately 5:30 p.m. Gumbo will be available for purchase, along with Happy Hour and Sunday menu items. Super Bowl pool boards will soon be available for 20 and 50 pesos, with payouts per quarter.

The Chapala Country Club is hosting a Super Bowl party at their new bar with large-screen TVs on February 9, starting at 5:30 p.m. The cost is 250 pesos for a BBQ Rib dinner, served from 7 to 8 p.m. Reservations: 376-763-5136.

Iron Horse Saloon is hosting a Super Bowl day with no cover charge. Daniel Cordero will provide live music starting at 2:30 p.m.

Mel’s Casa Social will host a Super Bowl party beginning at 4 p.m. The event includes a charity squares board, a 50/50 charity draw, free tequila and beer tastings, free giveaways, four TVs, and great food. Part of the proceeds from the squares board and draw will benefit Work, Play, Love and Mama Cleo’s Boys Home. RSVP and inquire about the squares board at 332-823-1507.

Restaurant Faro di Pietra in Roca Azul (south of Jocotepec) will also hold a Super Bowl party with special food options. Reserve at 331-887-6523.
