Chapala-Guadalajara highway upgrade causing gridlocks

Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro announced this week that the major upgrade to the Chapala-Guadalajara highway will be completed by December, ahead of the World Cup soccer matches scheduled for next summer in Guadalajara.

pg1dHowever, motorists and public transportation passengers are currently facing chaotic traffic conditions due to ongoing construction work.

Lemus shared the details of the project during a press conference on August 12 about preparations for the World Cup. The upgrade includes expanding the highway by three lanes in each direction between Guadalajara’s international airport and the city limits. The new road will be paved with hydraulic concrete and will feature the addition of sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and updated lighting to enhance mobility and safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists alike.
