The municipal governments of Chapala and Jocotepec are urging residents to take preventive measures to curb the spread of dengue fever, following the launch of the second 2025 National Campaign to Combat Dengue by Jalisco health authorities this week.
Dengue, along with the Zika and chikungunya viruses, is transmitted by mosquitoes, with outbreaks typically peaking during the rainy season. A recent increase in dengue cases has been reported in lakeside communities.
Jalisco’s Secretaría de Salud (SSJ) began a statewide dengue prevention campaign on Monday, August 11, in Cocula, the area with the highest incidence of the disease this summer. The campaign, which runs through August 18, also targets 17 neighboring municipalities to curb further outbreaks.
SSJ Minister Héctor Raúl Pérez Gómez called on all residents of Jalisco to reinforce prevention strategies.
